World headquarters of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints with 35 acres allowing visitors to experience Mormon culture and its pioneer heritage.
Our family has been to Temple Square countless times over the years. It is beautiful during all the seasons. The flowers are gorgeous during the spring and summer. The Christmas lights are a must see during the winter. The visitors centers are educational, and seeing the Christus statue is always on the list of things to visit while at Temple Square. Our whole family loves it, and we will continue visiting often.
This is the heart of Salt Lake City. This is why the city even exists. Get to see the beautiful landscaping and architecture. Visit the museums and exhibits. Talk with the missionaries there...they're always ready to give you a free tour of the place (how's that for a change). Whether you're interested in learning about the history or the religion, you'll come away with a good feeling.
This is the classic stop for our family at least once or twice a year. It is so peaceful and beautiful year round, with flowers, or with the christmas lights. They have some great historic displays inside the visitors centers, including a scaled village of Jerusalem with lighted narrative. There is a statue of Christ, and many paintings along with interactive movies.
our family loves coming here in the winter to see the Christmas lights, and in the summer for a peaceful walk around and a picnic at the eating areas. Close by is the Church history museum which has a fun kids section. We also head over to the conference center where they will give you a tour (and can make it quick if your kids need it).
There are lots of videos and history tours to go see at temple square. This is geared torward adults and older kids that actually have an attention span. My 3 year old did enjoy seeing the lights that they have up for christmas every year. If you can get away without younger kids this is a must see while you are in utah
Kids will love this place. My little boy loves looking at the large temple and the pretty flowers. All seasons are a great time to visit temple square. At christmas the lights are amazing and spring the flowers are breath takings. Kids are able to wander around in a nice comfortable and safe atmosphere. It a plan place to start your trip in Utah!
We Love Temple Square...the flowers, the fountains the reflecting pool, it is amazing! Then there is the temple itself, just beautiful, this is a peaceful lovely place to go. Our kids love spending time here! they love watching the fountains and getting a little wet in the reflecting pool...At Christmas time is the most amazing! The lights are just awe-inspiring!
It is for sure a must see! We bring all our out of state guests here!
Temple Square is a beautiful, peaceful place to visit - regardless of one's religion. The grounds are lovely and there are several visitor's centers to visit with information, videos, etc.... The historic Tabernacle is also beautiful and I highly recommend catching a Mormon Tabernacle Choir concert while there. And don't miss the wonderful reflecting pool in front of the temple!
I am a Mormon...we come in the masses in Utah! Haha! One of the best places to visit in Utah is Temple square. From the history of Brigham Young coming to the salt Lake Valley, the Mormon Tabernacle and Choir, the visitors centers, the Christus Statue replica, and history of the church of both modern and ancient times, Temple Square offers so much! The gardens are immaculately cared for and the lights during the holiday season are famous internationally! Take the time to talk to the missionaries called to tell people about the chirch there on Temple Square. Your heart will be warmed by this special and spiritual place. The Lion House, Garden and Roof Restaurants are all located within walking distance on Temple Square and are fantastic!.
Being a religious person, I love going to temple square. Even if you aren't mormon, it's a great place to walk around. I love going in the spring cause it is the perfect temperature and they are just planting flowers. It's so pretty! It is also very nice to go during December. The lights there are amazing and they even have a little manger scene that plays for you every so often!
Such a fun activity from Thanksgiving day throughout the holiday season. Bundle up and enjoy a stroll through temple square. It seems as though every branch on almost every tree is lit up with an array of colors. There is even a nativity and live music.
Parking can be tricky so I highly recommend taking tracks in.
Temple Square is very historic--in the spring/summer you can see all the gorgeous flowers, look at the statues, view the outside of the temple, etc. During the CHristmas season they have the whole area strung with lights, it's quite the site! Year round you can go in two visitors centers where they have displays related to the LDS church and also pioneers. There is also a Christus statue surrounded by a beautiful painting of the night sky, a regular recording out of scripture plays and can be requested in different languages. There are paintings, and videos, and all sorts of things! If you have really young children you will want to engage them a little more just so they don't start getting bored and running around touching things they shouldn't, but you can pick and choose what you see and for how long.
Temple Square is a great place for families to check out year-round with grounds that are always amazing. There are fountains, flowers, and trees--a haven in the middle of a busy city. And visitors are more than welcomed. There are lots of kid-friendly displays inside the visitors center for the LDS church. A must-see in downtown Salt Lake!
Our preschooler has always enjoyed going to Temple Square. He loves the North Visitor's Center, in particular the Christus statue and the wax figures downstairs. He also loves the fountains on Temple Square and surrounding church sites. We go any time of year and it is always a fun family outing.
We love visiting Temple Square! The flowers are gorgeous in the spring & summer, and seeing the lights is a must in the winter. There is plenty of room for the kids to run and play. The church history museum is also a great stop and there is always an exhibit geared toward the younger ones. Bring your camera - there's so many photo opportunities. It's a beautiful spot.
We go every winter for the lights. But you must dress warm, and I mean extra warm. There is a large jesus statue in the north building that has a very touching presentation. And anyone with questions about the mormons or LDS church can find out what it's really about. The grounds are a good size and there ate people everywhere to answer questions or give directions. Plus it is free! Which is my favorite part.
Temple Square is really beautiful all seasons. In the Spring the gardens are full of tulips, daffodils, and other spring flowers. The Summer offers more beautiful flowers, fountains, and buildings with wonderful airconditioning. The fall is full of color and perfect for a carriage ride. Winter brings the beautiful lights that turn this treasure into a bejeweled wonderland. Temple Square is free and perfect for those who just want to wander. There are tours available as well (also free.) Couple things to note if you are not familiar with Temple Square: The actual temple is not open to the public, however, you can access the grounds through a gate on the south of the temple and go right up to it. If you go into the church office building there is an observation deck at the top that is open to the public. The Joseph Smith building offers two beautiful restaurants on the top floor that have some amazing views.
Whether you are LDS or not it's a great opportunity to see the headquarters of one of the largest church's in the world. There is a beautiful visitors center, you can take tours of the conference center, and walk around the beautifully landscaped temple grounds, visit the church history museum. It's also fun around Christmastime because of all the lights and festivities.
You wouldn't go to Rome and not see the Vatican, so if you're traveling to Salt Lake, make time to go see Temple Square. The grounds are impeccably maintained, so they're just stunning! From all the flowers and foliage to the waterfalls and reflection pond, they really are amazing. Eat at the Nauvoo Cafe- towards the south east corner of the square. The pot pies are the BEST, but really I've loved everything I had there! Thursdays at 8pm, the world renouned Mormon Tabernacle Choir rehearses- you can see it for free! http://www.mormontabernaclechoir.org/events/
The area is beautiful, as well as the buildings. The kids enjoyed seeing the museum pieces. It is such a family friendly place! I have been to children's museums that weren't as family friendly! There wasn't much for teenagers to do other than site see. But there is lots of shopping nearby. Some really interesting stuff too!
Food can be expensive, so you have to check the menu's before you are seated.
