Explore the Everglades’ wild and woolly era at this old Indian trading post of the early
1900s. Learn how Smallwood’s was the site of an outlaw gun-down in 1910 and all about frontier life in the ’Glades through simple vignettes and antique general store
products. The view from the back porch may be the best part; the rest is somewhat
gloomy and dusty.
Just been there at this historical old trading post. Can't really put in words how wonderful the inside of this little old store is. Every inch full of historic stuff and if you're not in a hurry, you can feel right back in 1900 again and spend hours to see all there is to see. The view from the back is absolutely amazing. There's the old bedroom of Ted Smallwood just as it was in early 1900. Can't recommend this enough. When you can, rent a bike in Everglades City and bike over to Chokoloskee and visit this museum. Great family outing! Unspoiled by modern tourism.
