Watch and Play is a Sunday afternoon program for children sponsored by the Boston Symphony Association of Volunteers and the BSO Education and Community Programs department. Join us for an engaging talk about an instrument, a concert theme, and/or a musical concept. The program will be offered at 1pm in the Chamber Music Hall. Tickets to the Sunday afternoon performances are required. See website for dates and availability.
Tanglewood is the summer home of the Boston Symphony Orchestra, whose mem-bers, on summer weekends, perform concerts from the afternoon into the evening, often with the assistance of internationally known musicians and conductors. Most people who come to hear them sit outside on the lawn, arriving early with elaborate picnics and making a day of it. Some devotees choose to sit “inside,” which means under the roof of one of the two buildings: the Shed (which is anything but), with seating for more than 5,000, and Seiji Ozawa Hall, with seating for 1,180. If your kids are lucky enough to have music lovers for parents, your entire family will enjoy an outing to Tanglewood, especially on a warm summer evening when the BSO plays the 1812 Overture, complete with fireworks under the stars.
Tanglewood is the summer home of the Boston Symphony. Besides classical music, there are other types of music concerts, films, talk shows, etc. Garrison Keillor makes an annual appearance. I would suggest the inexpensive Lawn seats for families. A picnic while listening to world class musicians, in lush green surrounds. Can it get any better? You can rent seats but you can also bring your own. However, your children need to be able to sit through a 2 hour concert. There is usually an intermission. If you are doing an evening concert, you might want to consider staying overnight in the Berkshires. It is a 3 hour drive from Boston, 3.5 hours from New York.
If you love classical music and traditional music, you get to experience it here along with nature and a great atmosphere!
