Ceramics, pottery painting, glass fusing. No appointment or experience needed!
T Pots Pottery is a creative, cheerful space where children and adults can roll up their sleeves and unleash their artistic talents. From mud pies and glass fusing to summer camps and birthday parties, T Pots is a wholesome local hangout where parents can drop off their kids without worry—they're open every day!
During a weekend visit to Truckee with my 4-year-old son, we swung by T Pots for some open studio time—$8/hr + clay $5/5lbs which includes glaze and firing. It’s suggested you bring a towel and tools, but you may purchase a set at the studio or rent what you need for $2. With heartfelt encouragement from T Pots staff, it was a joy to watch my son clumsily shape his clay into a lady bug.
As I sat next to my child admiring his effort, I felt a pang of longing when I set eyes on the studio’s throwing wheel. I’ve wanted to shape clay on a throwing wheel ever since 1990 when I first saw the movie Ghost with Demi Moore and Patrick Swayze, and if I lived in Truckee, I could do it all the time. If I were local, I'd paint canvas and pottery or use my son’s sweet hands and feet to create clay hand and foot prints. Perhaps I'd even host a Saturday night Diva party with my closest friends—nothing says BFF like wine, ample table space, and vast amounts of art supplies!
T Pots is the perfect place to create unique gifts for friends and family, especially grandparents! A sampling of kids classes include:
-Mud-Pies (2-5 yrs old)
-After School Pottery Wheel Class (7 +)
-Thursday Kids Drop-in Wheel (5+)
KIDS NIGHT OUT $30
One Saturday a month from 6 pm to 8 pm, kids 7 years and up are invited to participate in an art project, play games, and eat pizza. Parents are welcomed to drop off their kids and come back after class ends—music to my ears!
Disclosure: My son received complimentary open studio time and a lollipop lovingly given to him by his sweet instructor. I was not asked to express any particular opinion. The enjoyment I experienced is genuine.
I have lived in Truckee for years and have drive by T-Pots every day and never went in - I now feel like I lost years of great play dates! Recently while in the shop next door I wondered over to T-pots and found a wonderful little gem of a place! On the shelves they have options of all sorts of ceramics unpainted and waiting for you to get creative with. My son picked out a jet plane and I got a piggy bank and we painted to our hearts content. You just pay for your piece and then get to have as much fun as you want painting them. They fire the pieces and you pick them up one to two days later. They also have plenty of other crafts like a pottery wheel, jewelry making etc. They have drop off classes and you can even host a birthday party there. This is an absolute MUST know for parents visiting Truckee who are looking for something other than the standard ski/lake activities. It's especially great for kids in the 5 - 8 age range.
Very reasonable prices. Activities include ceramics, pottery painting and glass fusing.
Along with spur of the moment, walk in activities. They also have kids pottery classes and camps.
If you are just visiting for a short time, they will ship your stuff back home for you when it is done.
