"Fun with the Family"

A 3,000-acre green and golden jewel of hillsides, redwood groves, creeks, wildflower-strewn meadows, and views. Take a short walk or a strenuous hike, picnic in the pines, park your RV overnight, or camp out in your tent.

"Weekend Family Getaway"

We've camped here for quick, easy family getaways.  It's about an hour away from San Francisco, 30 minutes from Novato.  We've always been campers, but when we had kids we wanted a place that was close enough that if they freaked out, we get get home quickly.  That never happened, but the plan allowed us to try out a campground we had never been to.  Some of the campsites are more private than others.  We prefer to camp next to the stream.  There's a grassy area in the middle of the campground that the kids all converge on and play together, which make it easy to meet other families.  Our family enjoys the hikes along the water and down to the waterfall (Springtime).  We have hiked up to the top of Bald Mountain and enjoyed the unhindered views of the Bay Area, but the kids did not enjoy the hike up the mountain, as it was steep in some places and not shaded.  We have not camped here during the summer months as I think it would be too hot for our liking, we prefer the cooler, shady places in the summer.  There are stables there and you can go horseback riding, but we have not done so.  All in all, we enjoy this campground for its proximity to home.
