If you have your own canoe or kayak feel free to launch from their dock.
this was our first kayaking experience - and it was a blast! i was a little leery thinking how the heck i am going to last out there...me being the only power that's going to get my daughter and I back to shore - but it was a breeze! we paddled around the bay, watched the otters swim next to us, raced my husband and son, beached the kayaks and played in the dunes across the bay - it was incredible! definitely made us a fan of kayaking!
We are a kayaking family and this place is great to rent from! They are located right on the Embarcadero which is great for those a little leery of kayaking in the ocean. It is calm and just gorgeous on a clear day. The fog can roll in so be sure to pack a "back up" outfit. Have fun!
We've taken the family to the Sub Sea Tours in Morro Bay several times. We always have fun! We go on the glass bottom boat tour. It goes out into the bay. We were divided up into two groups. The first group went to the bottom half of the boat first, while the second group stayed above, and then we switched. The driver was giving information about the area and the different types of fish we were seeing. They were also throwing fish food into the water to attract more fish. We were able to see a few otters too.
For all the little (and big) kids that want to see creatures under the sea, this is the boat for you! First, you sail on the deck of the boat over to the edge of the bay by Morro Rock and view the ocean, sea otters, birds, seals, and sea lions. When you get to the destination, everyone goes underneath the deck to the glass viewing rooms and watch the various fish and sea creatures that you can find under the water. My only advice: don't expect to see anything on days that has little under water visibility. You won't be able to see anything under the water. However, just the ride to the rock on top of the water is a lot of fun and in my opinion is worth the money. :)
The company offers forty-five-minute trips in a semi-submersible vessel daily, gener-ally on the hour depending on the tides. Kids love “diving” and seeing kelp forests and marine life. All trips narrated by a naturalist.
