"Historic Village with lots to do"

Stony Brook is a historic village, with many attractions for both kids and adults.  The town rests on Stony Brook Harbor, and has a small beach.  There is a dock for fishing, but at this time, (Summer 2010) no swimming since there is no lifeguard on duty.  There are educational programs, like the wetlands cruise outside of SB Harbor.  There are many restaurants in the town. A favorite is Brook House, which has indoor and outdoor seating, breakfast, lunch and dinner, and great ice cream.  There is a Godiva Chocolatier, as well as some more formal restaurants.  The Stony Brook Post Office is a favorite attraction--the giant bald eagle sculpture flaps its wings every hour on the hour.  The amount of times the wings flap isn't always consistent, especially during daylight savings, so this wouldn't be the time for a counting lesson!  But is fun to see nonetheless. People who love history, can go to the Grist Mill or the Museums down the street.  Shoppers will have plenty of opportunities to open their wallets--clothing, toy and knick-knack stores surround. Nature lovers have the beach, the dock and a duck pond and a nature walk throughout.  Handicapped access varies from place to place, so call ahead if you need to check for accessibility.  Brook House is accessible by wheelchair.  Visiting Stony Brook can fill a whole day, or more if you want to take your time.
