The Battle of Stones River began on the last day of 1862 and was one of the bloodiest conflicts of the Civil War. The battle produced important military and political gains for the Union, and it changed forever the people who lived and fought here.
Stones River National battlefield is so amazing. I would recommend anyone that visits Murfreesboro TN to visit this civil war battle field. It is free to visit and has many different areas to visit. I would recommend visiting the battle site in the daytime since most of the sites our outside. The National Cemetery is so amazing to see and one of the finest cemetery's that I have ever visited. When we took the tour of the national battlefield we visited about 9 miles of trails and roads and 6 tour stops which included the Cotton Field trail, Hells Half acre, Stone River Greenway and many more stops. This battlefield is so amazing and the landmarks that they have preserved over all these years is so amazing to see. At the end of our visit we visited the visitor center were they also have amazing artifacts form the soldiers uniforms to guns used in the civil war battle and a video you can watch explaining the battles that occurred on this land. This is one of the most amazing battlefields that I have ever visited and I would recommend to anyone that is in the area visit this amazing battle grounds.
