After moving out of the area, we drive 45+ minutes at least twice a month to go to Stews. There is plenty to do with the children while you are shopping- lots of samples plus interactive displays where your child can push a button and hear a cow moo, or a milk carton band (which I remember from when I was a child!) Not to mention the small farm out front where children can feed farm animals. There is an abundance of produce and meats, plus a pre-made food bar that has everything from wings to asian food. Finally, spend $100 or more and present your receipt to get a free ice cream of coffee!
You can shop and have the kids entertained for free. It's like a show while you shop and the animals outside are fun for the kids too. There are more than one location of Stew Leonard's in CT. You can get soft serve ice cream outside which is a nice touch too.
My kids love it there. They get to eat and go at the same time. They like the animals and the mini shows inside while shopping. I like them to because it keeps them occupied. It is farely close to my moms so we get to go pretty often. There food is good and reasonbly priced, but it is worth it for the kids.
It is always a treat for my kids when we go grocery shopping at Stew Leonards. The food is always fresh and they have a very good selection. The kids enjoy all the entertainment as we walk through the aisles. The food sings. Animals dance. My kids (finally) sit in the wagon, and don't complain about how bored they are. After we check out we go over to the little petting zoo area to visit the animals.
We stop in whenever in the area. Lots of things for the kids to look at and there are always fresh, free samples to try. Prices can be sort of high for the "regular" stuff, but they have so many items that you don't see anywhere else! Save room for some ice cream and if you don't feel like cooking, there is a "salad bar" at the end with everything from Chinese food to wings to soup to salad!
Stew's for those whose never been - is more than just a grocery store!! Fresh foods from farms throughout the US and Canada provides the best foods and ingredients that they sell. They bake their own bread, cakes, pastries and squeeze their own OJ. The kids will enjoy all the different interactive displays througout the store. We have to stop and take a look at the singing chickens, cows and gymnastic lobsters - it's great fun.
