I have two boys 4 and 7 and sometimes we just need to get out to let them run and yell. St. Sebastian River Preserve State Park is the perfect place to allow them to do that. You can do many things at this park, bike, camp, kayak/canoe, fish, ride your horse, picnic or just observe the wildlife.
We entered the park off of Babcock and drove our truck all the way to the end of the dirt road. The boys were super excited when they got out of the car and found a dam. It was a small water dam but it was something new and fun to them. My husband pulled out all of his fishing gear and joined a few of the local fisherman. He didn't catch anything and I'm glad because the water was pretty disgusting in my opinion.
Next, we decided to take a hike on one of the trails. We walked a little way and came across a wooden bridge. Again, the boys loved this and my husband pulled out his rods while the kids played. It was a beautiful day with clear skies which made it easy for us to see an eagle fly above our heads with it's dinner, a fish, in it's claws.
Finally, we loaded up our truck and started our ride home. We came across two huge wild turkeys and a campsite made specifically for cowboys and cowgirls and their horses. There was a covered area for horses, a port-o-potty for campers and wooden boxed in area for the horse manure.
St. Sebastian is a great area for the outdoor/wilderness loving family. Make sure you pack lots of water, food, sunscreen, hats and glasses so that you can enjoy everything this park has to offer. Oh, and if you want to kayak, canoe or ride horses you have to bring your own.
