Ok, so I don't mean lay down and relax, but to enjoy the beautiful landscapes and Temple and learn about the LDS Faith (inside with air conditioning! ;) There are a couple of "movies" to see as well that are about 10-15 minutes long. We had family that "worked" here (as a missionary service) so we often came here to visit. We like having our picture with the Christus statue in the background. Not very exciting for the kids, but a lovely place to feel the spirit.
The temple is too beautiful not to stop by so it's nice that there is a visitors center. The is an exhibit that displays the history of the temple, how it was made, etc. My kids (4 and 2 yrs) enjoyed looking at the tools. There are some interactive exhibits but its pretty much, press a button, listen to a video. But kids do like to press buttons so they enjoyed it. There is a large Christus statue. They let the kids touch the prints in Jesus's hands and feet, which I think the idea of Christ seem more real to them. If you are visiting the temple ground, stop by, but it's not a must see.
We have been during Christmas to the St. George Temple visitors center. The lights around the temple are just beautiful and on grounds there is a nativity. The visitors center has holiday trees as well as interactive displays that kids love. There are LDS missionaries there to guide you or answer any questions. And of course this is all free!
Go here as well as walking around the temple. The people in the visitor's center are mostly older, retired couples but they are more than happy to answer any and every question you have about the Saints settling in St. George and their temple. It is beautiful white against the green grass and red rocks in the background! The grounds are of course perfectly kept up and all is clean. It's of course, free for everything. If you are interested, they will even give you a Book of Mormon for free (non-members_). We saw a movie in the theater (air conditioning inside the whole center, yay!!!!) but I can't remember what it was about Jesus----I get them mixed up from temple visitor center to visitor center. :) A wonderful family place, with a lovely statue of Jesus Christ at the front.
This visitor's center is a nice little hidden jewel in St. George. It is kind of a mini-Temple Square. We love that you can request to see any movie that they have there (Testaments, Legacy, Joseph Smith film, etc.). They have the little church commercials for kids, an interactive display that teaches about Jerusalem and the Savior's life, and a smaller Cristus statue. It is a wonderful place to spend a Sunday afternoon.
