"Springs Preserve great family day out"

I think this place is kind of random, but fun and unique to this area.  It has several different sections some outdoor and some indoor.  The day we went was winding and cold which made it less fun to play on the playground and tour the various garden areas.  The cactus garden is unique and had variations I had never seen.  One of the inside areas had hands on activities on reuse, recycle, and green technologies.  Another area address specific things in this area, like the way it floods here and why.
I don't know where else you can take your kids that they will learn some of the stuff we saw that day.    My kids learned a lot.

"Great for locals and visitors!"

We love the Springs Preserve. It is such a phenomenal addition to the Las Vegas valley. There are so many fun things to write about I don't even know where to start. The outside is beautiful. The gardens are impeccable and everything is so well taken care of. The outdoor play areas are so fun for the kids, and they'll love being able to just run around free. Inside is pretty spectacular. The water features in the entrance keep my 2 year old's interest while we wait to go watch the movie. The rooms are all interactive, and take you through the history of Southern Nevada. The little animal habitat is so great for the kids, and older kids will love the arcade games that are all educational (and free). The very best thing is the flash flood simulator. You stand on a platform while a flash flood is demonstrated- water rushes all around you in walls- it's really neat. A great place to take kids to learn!

"A different side of Las Vegas"

Coming here was a nice, refreshing break from being at the Strip. It is pricey if you're not a resident of Nevada ($18.95/adult). But if you have AAA, you get a $4 discount. Kiddos under 5 are free. Good to know: My parents came along with our family and the AAA discounted tickets were cheaper than the senior nonresident tickets ($17.05).

I would definitely do the Ori-Gen Experience first. We saw a short informative movie about the Mojave desert and its origins. The highlight for my toddler was seeing the desert critters, like lizards, harvester ants, and bats. He also liked the little sand play area. The older kids would enjoy the "green living" arcade games.

The Springs also has some nice gardens to roam about and a Nature Exchange Center. Cute little area where kids can hang out and learn about rocks, trees, etc. My son liked the little astronomers' nook.

"A true gem in Las Vegas"

After our first visit, we bought season passes and have continued to do so every year.  It really is the finest "museum" we have in Las Vegas.  I use the term museum lightly because it is much more than that.  It was built on the original founding site of Las Vegas (The Meadows.)  Eventually it will house the Nevada State Museum but for now there is plenty to see, including: the Desert Demonstration Gardens, a Sustainability Gallery (all about eco-friendly living,) trails, Nature Exchange (a lab where children can look through microscopes, bring in things they've found outside and exchange them for something else, etc.) a wonderful playground, and our personal favorite, the Ori-Gen Experience.  Inside the Ori-Gen, you can see a simulated spring in the stunning rotunda.  From there, I'd recommend going to the theatre to watch the movie, "Miracle in the Mojave."  It's really well done and gives a great starting place before discovering the rest of the museum.  From there,  head back into the rotunda and learn all about the origins of the Mojave Desert, the animals that live here, how people eventually settled in the area and more.  There are tons of interactive games and exhibits for children.  They can build houses, play in the sand box, watch a flood simulation, dig for fossils, play video games about recycling, climb through a tunneled playset, etc.  The first several times we visited the Springs Preserve we never managed to visit anything outside of this building because there was so much to see and do!  And finally, I highly recommend eating at the Wolfgang Puck Cafe.  The food is fabulous!

"Pricey, but a great trip"

If you are looking for something educational and fun to do, Springs Preserve is a great activity.  The desert gardens are gorgeous and the children's exploration area (near the sustainable living building) is a great place to give your kids a hands-on experience.  My son really loves the sandbox with fossils to dig out.  The only drawback is that it is very pricey (though locals get a discount), so it is probably worth it to invest in the family membership.

"Great Fun and Informative"

My chrildren love it there so much we had to purchase a season pass. The animals are very well kept. There is a couple play areas through out the park which the kids will enjoy. They have a library with story time on Tuesdays and a great restaurant. The great thing is throught the year they have a lot of celebrations and instructional classes.

"This place has it all!"

Lots of interactive exhibits, there are galleries, a museum, live animals displays, outdoor amphitheatre, a Wolfgan Puck cafe, and even an outdoor trail system.  Kids can learn about history, ecology, sustainability, and so much more.  There also classes and events monthly, where you can learn from gardening or enter a photography contest.
