My family and I flew into Spokane International Airport in 2007 when we were going to visit family in Clarkston, WA. It was much cheaper to fly into a big airport (Spokane). We had a great experience while at the Spokane International Airport. We ate lunch once we landed and the food was great (I don't remember the name of the restuarant) and we didn't have any trouble retrieving our bags off the belt. Everyone was very pleasant and nice while we rented our car. Overall the experience was great and we didn't have any issues.
If you've ever been stuck in an airport for longer than an hour you know you'll be wondering where all the shops are. Traveling with children is an event within itself, but being stuck in an airport with little to do is even worse. There are a shortage of eateries and stores, especially if you are in the Alaska Airlines gates. Take activities with you as there are no play areas, no kid friendly food places and certainly no stores geared to relieve mom of the frustration of chasing a little one up and down the corridors. It is not a bad airport, just plan ahead as it nothing more than a that.
This airport, while it is really well organized and timely, is not super kid friendly. They really don't have any kid oriented restaurants/activities in the whole airport, and there are really no toys or anything in the waiting areas. That being said, kids love airplanes, so it's not hard to keep my daughter entertained!
The airport has changed alot over the last ten years. It has been remodeled and upscaled. It is alot easier to move around and get where you need to be, when you need to be there. Like any other airport - give yourself extra time for lines and getting through security. Overall it has improved the airport.
Spokane International, or GEG, is a joy to get through with a baby or toddler. As a small hub, it doesn't have nearly the traffic that some of the major ones do, making it downright mellow. We have yet to have to wait in line to get to the family security screening. Concourse A & B come off a round shop and food court after security. The clean, spacious family restrooms can be located off this area, though even the men's restrooms were well equipped with changing tables. The one star is removed because the food here is questionable, mostly fast food with one modest bar and grill, plus the large coffee and pastry bar.
