"beautiful"

This is a beautiful lighthouse in a beautiful area. I went up to this area of Minnesota almost every year of my childhhod. I always enjoyed the lihjthouse and also the areas you can hike along the shore. Now my kids love this trip as much as I always did.
If you don't want to go into the lighthouse then there is an area that you can go park without having to pay the state park fee. You can then walk to the shore and see the light house from there. There are picnic tables there so it could just be a quick place to stop, enjoy the view and eat. ALL for free. I would say that if you have small kids I would recomend them wearing one of those harnesses. Or yes I am talking about what most people are calling a leash. But I say that if you are keeping your child safe that they are for a good reason. Because by the shoer it would be dangerous without one.

"Split Rock Lighthouse"

Split Rock Lighthouse was a great place to go! We went on a cold saturday, when all the kids were bored. The drive there was pretty with the snow falling. The lighthouse itself is gorgeous and interesting! The kids loved it, the girls giggled and sighed when a man proposed to his girlfriend at the lighthouse in front of them, and when a wedding party was taking pictures there. The lighthouse was very family friendly with plenty of activities for the kids!

Although we were here before the lighthouse was open for the season we could still walk up to the lighthouse.  The gift shop/bathroom and interpretive center was also open.  There were great interactive exhibits about the construction of the lighthouse and the need for it.  There was also a 20 minute film which we all enjoyed.  A beautiful lighthouse on a beautiful lake.

"Beautiful lighthouse"

This is a place I've wanted to go for years, and we finally got the chance when we were in northern Minnesota last fall.  It was beautiful with the fall colors, and the view of Lake Superior was magnificent on a crisp fall day.  The visitor center has some hands-on activities for the kids, and you actually can climb up the lighthouse tower.  (My fear of heights and the winding staircase didn't make this my favorite part, though.)  There's also a path that goes down by the lake; there's a stair path with a LOT of steps, or a wider path that's longer but more gradual.  This is one of those Minnesota landmarks that you should see if you're in the vicinity.
