This is a great mall for style- conscientious parents and kids alike. There is the "High End" end, sporting names like Gucci, Louis Vuitton, Chanel, Bloomingdale's etc, and the "Low End" end, with Charlotte Russe, Pac Sun etc. The kids love to ride the gorgeous carousel and eat at such restaurants as Corner Bakery or even McDonald's! It's fun to just walk through the nice part and shop at the cheap part, and this mall's HUGE!! Its a great walk with a stroller if you're up to feeling like a peasant for about a half a mile!! Bring the kids, it'll be their cultural experience for the week:)
This mall can be a great destination point to spend a morning or afternoon with your kids. We would head towards the east side of the mall and enter the side entrance near Bloomingdale's off of Bristol St. There is a carousel on the ground floor that the kids loved to ride and there are quite a few "kid stores" in that area, including Pottery Barn Kids, Gymboree, and the Disney Store. Rainforest Cafe is down the hall towards Sears and is a great place to grab lunch and peer into the large aquarium tanks.
Another favorite approach to the mall is to park in the underground parking at Crystal Court which is across Bear St. from South Coast Plaza. At Christmas time there is a large mountain display in the center court with a toy train circling around it. On the second floor is a train ride for kids around the balcony of the center court. My boys love walking across the outdoor pedestrian bridge over to South Coast Plaza and then back. There are some unique fountain displays in the stair cases of these malls as well that captivate my children's attention.
More than one hundred world-renowned stores call this internationally recognized address home, as do restaurants, art galleries, and even a day spa. The kids will clamor to check out the fabulous Disney Store.
We would go to this mall sometimes to eat at the Rainforest Cafe and walk around and browse the Disney Store. It is nearby Fry's Electronics and IKEA. Now that we live in Middle America, the South Coast Plaza seems a lot more impressive, but among the sea of malls in Los Angeles, not really someplace to go out of your way to get to, but if you are in the area, it is a nice mall. (Um how's that for a run-on sentence?!)
This is a rather large mall. It has decent shops in it with stuff to interest all ages. There is nothing all that special, though. Its mainly a mall locals go to.
