"College Town Fun"

San Luis Obispo is a college town and you get that good old fashioned college town feel at their farmer's market every Thursday night. It's crowded to be sure but people don't go there just to buy their produce and leave. It's a place to linger, listen to a band, eat some tri tip and just enjoy the people. If you want a quiet farmer's market there is another one in town at another time in the week. That one is a buy your produce and run sort of affair. Go down town and have some fun!

"Living the SLO life downtown farmer's market"

The SLO downtown farmer's market on Thursday nights is a wonderful family affair.  The market opens at 6:00 on Higuera street.  During the warmer months it can be very crowded so it may be a good idea to bring a stroller or backpack for the little ones.  Enjoy a stroll downtown to pick up fresh fruit and veggies, pick up some dinner from one of the many food vendors, and let the kids enjoy the bounce house, face painting, or live music.  My 3.5 year old loves dancing to the live music.  This is definitely a fun time for all!

"Way too crowded!"

This farmers market is just too crowded for my taste.  I couldn't enjoy myself because I was constantly weaving through the crowds, and people have no concept whatsoever of personal space.  It's hard to keep an eye on the kids, and it would be very easy to lose them.  The booths and live music is nice, but it's still not worth it.  Even if you're a little claustrophobic it would be hard.  I prefer the Morro Bay farmers market over this one.

"good atmosphere,but..."

it is always way too crowded for my kids and even myself. If your kids have any sensory overload switch this isn't a good trip on Thursday nights, I would suggest Avila farmer's market instead. The singing BBQ guys are fun to watch, eating fruits and veggies right after you buy them is always yummy. Be sure to take a walk down bubblegum alley and stop and listen to the local music playing at the ends of the market.

"We Love Farmers Market!"

We absolutely love this farmers market!  Lots to see, listen to, and do.  There is a puppet show, several bands, and every week there seems to be some dance group or gymnastics or karate or something for the kids to watch.  And of course there is a huge variety of food, not just BBQ (there is plenty of that though!).

The only thing to be careful about is it gets really crowded so keep your kids close!

"Best Farmer's Market Ever!"

This is like a weekly outing in this fun town!  They not only have amazing produce, they also have great music, vendors and packed with a great evening for all!  Once a month they also have a "bike happening" event that is great!  Make sure to stop by sometime!!

"Huge!"

This is by far the largest farmers market I have ever been to!  You can find anything here- fruits, veggies, nuts, meats, flowers, breads, etc.  They also have excellent food vendors- be sure to come with an appetite!  There are also different booths set up, and activities for the kids as well.  Our favorite is when they have the trick-or-treating for the kids, or when they bring in the truckloads of snow.  Love it!

"Lots of fun"

We love going to Farmer's Market.  Buying tasty fruits & veggies is only a small part of this farmer's market.  There are blocks of vendors from the local restaurants selling tasty food from lentil soup to bbq to gyros.  There are always several musical performers and often puppet shows or magic shows for kids.  It is a great way to spend the evening downtown.

"Farmer's Market Fun"

If you go early, like right when it starts at 6, their is a lot of fun that families can have before it gets really busy.  Sometimes their are petting zoos, puppet shows, face painting, balloon animals, and other kid friendly activities.  Their are always concerts to dance to, yummy food of all types and flavors, wonderful produce, and just all around fun.  Stay too long though and it gets really crowded.

"Fun with the Family"

Not to be missed is this world-famous farmers’ market (a 7-block-long street fair). Kids will love the excitement of musicians, puppeteers, face painters, skate dancers, fire eaters, and, obviously, loads of fresh fruit, veggies, and mouth-watering barbecue. Don’t be shy—join thousands of curbside dining families downing tasty ribs, chicken, or beef tri-tip sandwiches. Fantastic people-watching, too!

"Bring a sweatshirt"

Farmer's Market in downtown San Luis Obispo is a family friendly outing.   Vendors line the streets with their burrito wagons and bbq's, homemade candles and locally grown organic produce.  Evenings in SLO can be chilly even in the summer, so bring a jacket or sweatshirt for everyone.  I don't recommend going with a stroller, so bring the backpack if you have little ones.  During the school year, it is common for the street to be very crowded with college students, but families know that the best local produce is at farmer's market.  My favorite is the Hayashi's strawberry stand, which starts selling fresh berries around April.  We love McLintock's BBQ for tri tip sandwiches.
