There are no reservations first come first serve. They limit the number of tubes on the hill so everyone gets a good ride for the hour. You control your own speed by dragging your feet. It is a rope tow that pulls you up and you come down a beautifully groomed half pipe on the inner tube.
Brought the family up here to go inner tubing and was told by a lovely young lady we could do one trial run before paying because it's expensive and we weren't sure if it was safe. The people before got a free trial -- we saw them.
So we all got dressed filled out the paperwork and then came "Shelley" who started ripping into us that there were no freebies for us and what not -- then I got that familiar feeling when you know people hate you because you're the wrong race... In our case Hispanic. What a mean spirited woman. She tore up the contract right in my face.
I know I could be wrong, and hope I am, but my son looked at me and said -- "let's go Daddy."
Before we left I asked "Shelley" if she'd ever heard the expression "the customer's always right?" and she said -- "Not around here they aint!"
And that's all she wrote!
If Rodney King was here I know what he would have said -- "Can't We All Just Get Along"!
Save your money and your vacation! Steer Clear!
ps: If we ever get an apology from them I'll gladly remove this depressing review.
Sledz is unsafe and many people were seriously hurt last week!
I paid for 5 family members to enjoy Sledz last week. We are all skiers/ snowboarders and frequent Mammoth Mountain visitors. We enjoy thrill and adventure. However, while loading for my first sledding experience ever, I saw a man fly into the air and land on his ribs, unable to move for a few minutes. I saw a little girl walking while crying down the sledding pathway and wandering for minutes before anyone stopped her. I got on my tube, as a double, and hit a bump so hard, that had a gaping hole, and flew into the air. I, along with my 8-year old niece, both landed head first on the ice. My neck made cracking noises and has been hurt ever since. My 8-year old niece has been experiencing pain and has not been the same.
I did not return for a second ride. While explaining to the manager on duty, she was rude. She said it's not for everyone. I told her that I enjoy thrill rides, but this ride was dangerous and in the limited time I was there, I saw three hurt riders.
I went to the car and as my family was preparing to leave, an aggressive argument began between the manager and a family of four. A man began explaining to the manager that his two daughters were hurt because of a hole in the ice that prompted them to fly in the air. One girl had half of her face bruised and swollen. The other landed on her body and was in pain. The mother was crying aloud.
A man reported to the manager that he believes a rib may be broken.
An employee came out to talk with the family of four. I went over to extend condolences to the family. The family says they have been many years but that the conditions were never this bad. The employee reported that they have been having many injuries and accidents and that earlier, a young girl landed so hard on the ice that she laid there not moving. He said he had to run down the hill and carry her off the ice and that while carrying her, she didn't move. He laid her on the ice and he said that for about another hour, she laid there.
Over the radio, I heard an employee saying that on weeks where they are so busy, they need to groom more often. He explained that people brake with their shoes while approaching the dangerous bump and they remove the ice from the pathway. The manager immediately responded saying "do not give that information over a radio" and immediately turned off the radio.
As we were leaving, sledders spun out of control, across the snow fencing barricade and into the crowd.
When I spoke with her about the dangers and many instances in just one hour, she became aggressive rather than caring.
Sledz needs to be investigated. Every person hurt said they will just not return but no one said they wanted to report it; they just wanted to get their children out.
This is not okay. People are getting hurt.
We were there this past week. Go to Sledz if you choose. I personally will not go back because of our experience. Take a look and decide for yourself. We were there this past week. We enjoyed this! March of 2008, it was $20 per person, per hour and 1 hour was plenty of time. We arrived right before it opened so it wasn't crowded yet, so we had it almost all to ourselves for that hour, by the time our hour was up, it started to get crowded and there a brief wait in line to get pulled up the hill on the cable. I would definitely recommend getting there early to avoid crowds and get the most sledding time! Great family time. Good for kids age 4+.
Perfect for kids who love grappling with gigantic inner tubes. Well-matched for kids age three and older. Kids 4 feet and taller can ride the authentic bobsleds with adult supervision.
