The Exploritorium is much more than an indoor playground. The Exploritorium is a place where children and adults can come and explore together through interactive play. Use your imagination to create a project in the arts area or make-believe in the costumed dress-up area; build with all sizes of blocks and run your fingers through the water play area; log on to the fun at our computer stations and experience new heights in the two and a half story tubes and tunnels.
The Nitty Gritty: We went here on a Friday afternoon In March. We were non-residents so admission was $5 each adult and $5 for my son (22 months old). Anyone under 1 year is free.No strollers allowed past the "gated area". Outside the gated area, there are a few tables and a vending machine.
The fun: When I heard that the Exploratorium was voted as the "Best Rainy Day Activity", I had to check it out. Located in the basement of the Skokie Community Center, there is a lot of activities to keep your little one occupied. My son love splish splashing at the water area, playing at the train table and going down the slide in the toddler zone.
Though I didn't get a chance to eat there, my husband commented that the tables looked like they hadn't been clean in ages because it was really sticky. He had expected children's places to be immaculate.
Son's fav moment: The water play area and the Toddler Play area where he mastered the art of going down the slide by himself.
Parent's fav moment: Being able to sit down and observe while my son being able to play
Bottom Line: Would come here again though only if there was a discount.
Tip: You can make this a day outing by going next door to the Skokie water park.
Here's a gint indoor playground and interactive site that's not overwhelming to be in or keep track of your kids. You can pretty much see them wherever you are in the place. There's no area for eating, which is a bummer, but you can just get there first thing in the morning, get your money's worth and leave when lunchtime rolls around. There's several areas to explore including: an Arts & Crafts Area, Indoor Playground, a Water Play Area, and a Dress-Up Area/Stage.
