"Great way to explore South Lake Tahoe in California. I recommend taking advantage of a guide as he or she will be able to point out all of the hidden gems the lake has to offer."

Ski Run Marina located at South Lake Tahoe in California will provide your family with the perfect set of "toys" to explore the Lake.
I enjoyed a boat rental with a guide during my visit to South Lake Tahoe. You can choose to explore the lake via parasailing, kayak, jet ski, or choose another water toy. Whichever you choose I do recommend hiring a guide, especially if this is your first time visiting, as he or she will be able to show you all of the hidden gems this lake has to offer.

The first gem that we discovered was the Tea House. It is a small castle looking structure located on an island in Emerald Bay.  You can get to it by parking your boat, swimming to the shore, and climbing up a small mountain. I enjoyed the Tea House from the boat but noticed others who had kayaked to the island and made the trek up to explore.

Once you pass the Tea House in Emerald Bay you should tie your boat to the dock so that you can explore Vikingsholm Castle and then the waterfalls behind it. If your kids are fans of Lord of the Rings then they will get a kick out of seeing the castle.  It reminded me of a hobbit house.  After getting in a few pictures of the castle, I made a quick hike to the first waterfall and it was gorgeous! Definitely worth the hike. After finishing your hike and leave Emerald Bay by boat you may find a sunken barge/boat located to the right of the bay. During a clear day you may be able to see it. Unfortunately I was not able to find it.

If you are a thrill seeker there is a rock called The Rooster located on the lake.  You can climb up the back of the rock then jump into the water below.  It looked a little scary to me but I was told, by a few adrenaline junkies, that it is really fun. A rope swing is also located near The Rooster as well.

Lake Tahoe South is amazing and there is so much of it to be enjoyed.  If you decide not to take advantage of a boat guide I would recommend that you ask for recommendations of places you should explore during adventure.  Everyone at Ski Run Marina was very nice and would be happy to help you out. If boating is not your thing remember there are jet ski rentals and parasailing as well!

Things to know:
Wear lots of sunscreen and bring water bottles and snacks on your trip.
It may get chilly so pack a light, waterproof jacket.
There are shops, a restaurant, and places to stay located around the marina.
You can book your rentals online.

Disclosure: I received a complimentary boat tour compliments of Tahoe South.  As always, this reviews is honest and completely my own.
