It is a nice place to visit. We were there at the beginning of December. We went so that we could also see the lights at night as well. The sea through boat tour is fun for kids and adults as well. Real little ones might not be as interested in the boat tour. They also have animals in the park as well as some rides. Our daughter went on her first carrousel ride at this park. Nice clean park. We had a really good time and it was a nice thing to do instead of the big theme parks while visiting family in Florida.
This is a great place for families! LOTS of interesting animals to see. The glass bottom boats are amazing. There other fun rides, too! The Jeep Safari is another favorite. There are also several fun shows to watch! Great food & shops. And during the summer they even have concerts! A must see if you are in the Ocala area.

Its a very nice place .Go on glass bottom boats to see the Crystal clear springs, they are amazing!.The boat ride is included in the admission ticket. The cool boat ride in midst of trees n the view of the springs is a good combo for humid florida weather.U can show ur kids loads of Gators!,turtles and much more wildlife as u take river cruises. There are many shows like reptiles of the world, snakes show, wings of the springs birds show where kids can see the wildlife from near, get knowledge and have fun. These shows are timed so make sure u plan for it as u enter. There is a lighthouse ride and kids playland to have fun. There are icecream shops, cafes,U can also pack some snacks for little ones.
The Silver Springs today is definitely not what it used to be. Even the very minimal repairs have not been done in probably 20 years. This might be a nice visit if I were elderly and retired. We recently went for Easter with the whole family, over 10 members. There is not 1 employee at Silver Springs who is at all enthusiastic about their job, there is no interest at all in seeing that the visitors enjoy themselves. The Boat Captains are just miserable and the only 1 to have anything to see is the Historical Tour with their makeshift villages and movie lure.
There were a total of 6 kids in our group and 5 adults. The kids were not entertained in the least bit and the adults felt taken for a ride at every turn (and not in a good way).
Silver Springs is about an hour outside of Orlando. So if you've done all the normal tourist things check this one out. We went in March when the humidity is lower and the weather was nice.
There is actually quite a bit to do here (glass bottom boats, petting zoo, bird show, lots of animals)...we ran out of time and didn't really make it over to where the alligators are (I highly recommend going to Gatorland www.gatorland.com if you are in the Orlando area and want to see plenty of alligators).
Silver Springs was probably amazing in the 1940's, 50's and 60's but although it's still nice even one of the tour guides said, "it's not what it once was".
Our daughter was almost one year old when we visited and enjoyed all of the animals. One of the unique things was getting to feed a giraffe. You can buy some crackers and let the giraffe eat right out of your hand.
I would say this is a very family friendly place. There are plenty of things for the kids to do and see. Enjoyable for all ages. Much more relaxed then most of the theme parks. Stroller friendly.
Silver Springs is a nature park. Allow about five hours to see everything. The are 3 boat rides - the World Famous Glass Bottom Boats which allow you to see down into the springs and see fish, turtles, alligators if you are lucky! There is also a wildlife boat that takes you back where they take care of some of the animals brought to the park that are found wounded. The third boat ride talks about Florida history and how life was 100+ years ago when people started visiting the area.
There is a playground area for kids but they have to be under a certain height to be able to go in. There are also bears, giraffes, reptile shows, and a nice storefront shopping area that overlooks the Glass Bottom Boat dock.
They offer concerts certain times of the year so if you are not interested in the music, it might be best to avoid those days, it can get pretty crowded. Otherwise, this is a very relaxing day. Food is not allowed in the park but they do have picnic tables right outside so if you do bring a cooler you have to leave the park and come back in. Bottled water is allowed though and is a nice thing to bring in with you!
One of the original glass-bottom boat rides took early visitors through the junglesand over the clear spring waters of Silver Springs. Florida’s first tourist attraction cotinually grows and has kept up with the times by adding a petting zoo, a Jeep safari, World of Bears, and Panther Prowl. The squeamish will want to sidestep the “Crea-ture Feature” show, starring scorpions, bats, and giant Madagascar hissing cocroaches. Don’t miss the white alligator exhibit. Big Gator Lagoon is home to morethan twenty gators and crocodiles. Once the site ofTarzan filming, the park hosts a healthy population of free-roaming monkeys in addition to its contained animals. The tiny tots will like the playland. You can dine at one of seven food outlets; no food or drink is allowed to be brought into the park (except bottled water). Call for a schedule of special entertainment events.
