Imagine a carnival the size of a small town and you've just about got the idea behind Shamrock's Saint Patrick's celebration. This town of 2,029 swells to over 10,000 for the weekend celebration.
There's a parade, carnival foods, local stores, traveling vendors, car shows, a beauty contest, roping competition, a church service, even musical acts.
This is a kid-friendly activity with something for every age group. Most things can be gained by a short walk up or down Main Street (although expect to park at least a block off Main). There are many chain hotel/motels here (it's on I-40) and a McDonalds and Subway. But, skip those and go to Hasty's (where the locals go) to grab a Dr. Pepper. YUM! But, bring your cash - Hasty's doesn't accept debit/credit cards.
This is a good day-trip for folks in the Texas/Oklahoma Panhandles; however, if you're cruising I-40 during Spring Break it's worth it to make plans to stop in Shamrock for a little St. Patty's Day fun!
