Within the Seattle city limits, Seward park boasts 300 acres of beautiful forest land - home to eagles' nests, old growth forest, a 2.4 mile bike and walking path, an amphitheater, a native plant garden, an art studio, miles of hiking trails, and more.
I fell in love with Seward Park the day I met a friend for a walk there and, during our 2.5mile circuit, we spotted an eagle hovering above our heads. In Seward Park you are literally in the middle of Lake Washington and the Seattle/Bellevue/Renton urban area, but it doesn't feel like it. To me, this park feels like a smaller version of Vancouver's Stanley Park - it has that same feeling of wilderness-in-the-city.
Seward Park just about has it all; beaches with city views, shaded hills for easy hikes, bathrooms, nature center, and a playground. Bring your own snacks & coffee. The 2.4 mile flat & paved loop along the beach is perfect for stroller pushing or a bike ride. Check the website for toddler storytime & guided hikes.
Seward Park was one of my favorites as a kid. Two words - ZIP LINE! At the top of the park there is a great zip line perfect for the older kids. There's lots to do for the whole family. There's a gravel path around the entire perimeter of the park - bring the off road stroller for a nice lakeside stroll. Tennis courts, lots of grassy areas, a number of playgrounds, good bathroom facilities and tennis courts. Don't forget to jump in Lake Washington on those glorious Seattle summer days. Only four stars because there is no food in the park or right near by - don't forget your brown bags.
