If your family is interested in history, don’t miss visiting the Seminole Negro IndianScout Cemetery. The scouts were runaway slaves who had assimilated into Seminole culture by the time some bands were forced out of Florida. Many of the black Semnoles settled in the Brackettville area and scouted for the army, fighting in almost every major Indian War campaign. They lost not a man, and four of them won Medalsof Honor. Their graves are here, along with those of other black Seminoles who fought in many other American wars. You can leave a donation at the Fort ClarkMuseum to help maintain the cemetery.
