A truely spectacular architecturally designed library. A beautiful modern building inside and out! The exterior is more than 50% glass!! Great kids section with board books that can be checked out on the honor system!! Several computers the kids can hop on that are age appropriate.... so no worries!!
Visited in summer 2010 with 8 &9 year olds. Never would have even thought of visiting here, but my sister was with us and she had read about it somewhere. What a library, it's beautiful. We went to the very top and were able to see the great view from up there. We even went to the red room, I think it was some sort of lobby for a theater, got some great pics in there. Would have loved to have had time to actually find a book, sit and just soak it in, but they were getting ready to close for the day. The boys enjoyed riding the elevators and escalators to the top and down again. Even older kids will appreciate the great views from this grand building. Of course toddlers would enjoy sitting down in the children's library and reading a good book. It's a grand library and worth a visit for anyone visiting.
The Seattle library is right downtown. It is pretty interesting to just go walk through to see the architecture. They have a great childrens area and there are some cool things to discover there like the red hallway and the escalators. There are some neat views from the top as well.
Ah, the downtown Seattle library- people either love it or hate it. The Central Library is a modern piece of architecture, located in the middle of Seattle. It was designed by the architect Ren Koolhaus and has been getting tons of publicity since it opened.
The library is a great place to come and hang out- with a HUGE children's section and frequent story times and other activities. After your kids have read their fill of books, be sure to take a free tour of the library. Be sure not to miss the red hallways of the 4th floor! And best of all, it's all free!
