The large saltwater lagoon, offers trained lifeguard supervision. Besides swimming, the Lagoon offers a large sand area for sunbathing, children's play equipment, snack bar facilities provided by Ruby's Restaurant , and volleyball courts. There is also a grassed area and luau shelter for day and evening events.
Open during summer months, this place is great for families with kids. The good - nice gentle lagoon for the little kiddies, nice beach, grassy area for play area for kids, volleyball courts, snack bar & place to eat, lifeguard on duty. The bad, no actual waves for riding (more like a lazy lagoon), you have to pay admittance adults $5,kids $4,under2 free, and parking $4.25, could use more public restrooms, and kind of stinks that they eating venues only take cash and the lagoon itself takes cash and check. But overall, it is a nice place to take a family or if you have a private party, the amenities are great for a beach setting. A nice place to hang out.
We went here last Friday and it was empty. That is always a plus in my book. It was overcast so that may be the reason why, plus it was a Friday. The kids loved playing in the water and they especially enjoyed the water fountains they could sit in and around. It is nice the place is fenced in so people without kids are not hanging nearby.
My kids are 4 and 3 years old so playing in the giant waves of the Pacific Ocean isn't ideal. So I was delighted when I found the Seaside Lagoon. This is a City of Redondo Beach park, located right next to the Marina in Redondo Beach. It is a man made "lake" filled with ocean water. They have bathrooms, changing rooms, plenty of picnic tables, beaches, waterslides and lots and lots of shallow area for the little ones. There is also a playground within the park. And best of all, there is a Ruby's Diner window where you can order drinks, fries, burgers, etc. All this for a nominal entrance fee, but a miniumum of $4 parking fee.
My warning is to come after 3:00pm. The park opens at 10:00, but it is a popular attraction for all of LA's summer camps. The place is mayhem - not enough adult supervision and 100's of ill behaved children. It clears out in the afternoon when just the locals are there. Weekends are very busy.
This is new as well - in the winter they have an ice rink at the Lagoon. I'm not sure how long that will last, but it's worth checking out.
