Sears Find Food is a San Francisco tradition. Started by Sears in 1938, a retired circus clown, it is famous for it's sweddish pancakes made from a family recipe. Till this day, Sears serves pancakes any time of the day. It's union square location makes it a great stop for visiting families. In 2004, Sears under went major renovation. Today, the restaurant has an updated old world feel about it. It's menu is has traditional favorites like burgers and fish and chips, but also includes some wonderful combinations like short rib sliders.
Went on a date with my 3 year old today. We took the Bart downtown, walked up to Union Square and then to Sears Fine Food. As always the pancakes were wonderful. I've never been to Sears for dinner, and was totally surprised with some interesting things on the menu like the short-rib sliders with red coleslaw. It was really yummy! What I love about Sears is the old world charm of the restaurant. Instead of totally gutting it when they renovated in 2004, the management restored it. You feel like you're walking into the 30's fine dining restaurant. The prices were a little expensive for dinner, but the atmosphere is relatively relaxed. The staff was very welcoming to my curious 3 year old. No, there wasn't a play land, but they do have Kobe beef hamburgers on the dinner menu. The menu is great for baby and mommy/daddy gourmets.
It was a perfect place for a mommy and me date. We even had a nice conversation about how he loves me except when I shout. Maybe it was the candles at the table or the jazz music, but it felt so nice to have one on one time with a little 3 year old who was trying to be such a big boy.
