The U.S. government authorized construction of the National Road in 1806 to connect the East and the West. One of the National Road’s tollhouses, Searight Toll House is open to the public and is administered by Fayette County Historical Society.
Built in 1835 and recently restored, the octagonally shaped tollhouse includes the toll keeper’s office, kitchen, living room, and living quarters.
