Sea Center Texas, an aquarium and educational center in Lake Jackson, showcases a 22,000-square-foot fish hatchery for redfish and speckled trout. “Touch tanks” are included specially for children, along with three aquariums that feature freshwater fish, bay fish, and gulf fish in their natural habitats. The hatchery is surrounded by a five-acre wetland site with a nature walk for viewing birds and other wildlife.
We did a short stop here with the kids aged 2 and 4. There's a nice touch pool with crabs and little fish and a big aquarium tank inside. Nothing spectacular since their 300 pound grouper died last year. The place is staffed with great volunteers and if you're interested in more in dept info about the breeding programme they run, they'll gladly take you on an informative tour of the working part of the facility. Outside, you can walk along a short boardwalk across wetland habitat. Good for a little stop if you're driving the gulf coast.
