This real working family farm has UPICk organic gardens, orchards, farm festivals, tours, bakery & more. Annual events include the Peach Festival, Pumpkin & Chili Party, Easter Egg-Citement, 4th of July Fireworks and Celebration and Winter Wonderland.
My family of 7 (kids ages 9 yrs to 10 months) visited Schnepf Farms during their annual peach festival. Admission to the event is free. There are vendors, peach treats and products for sale, and a hayride out to the orchard (no additional cost) where you can pick your own peaches ($2.20/lb). There is an option to walk to the orchard but the hay ride was fun and informative. You get to see around the farm and the driver gives you a little of Schnepf Farm's history. We also walked around a little and saw some cute farm animals. The kids loved petting the baby goats and watching the peacocks. There is a peachy pancake breakfast that we heard great things about but didn't participate in this year. We did buy a giant peach cinnamon roll ($10) that was delicious but could have used more peach. We also purchased some peach cobbler granola and sampled some peach jams and dressings. Everything made here is so delicious! There are also some amusement rides, including a train and carousel, for a fee ($12 for an unlimited ride wristband or $3/ride). There are also a few fun looking playgrounds the kids can enjoy for free.
The main event for us was the peach picking. Schnepf farms provides bags and boxes for you to use. You can pay for your peaches with cash, check, or credit card. My family loved walking around the orchard and picking fresh peaches straight from the tree. They were so juicy and delicious. It had rained the day before we came so the orchard was very muddy. This did make for unseasonably cool weather. There were lots of water coolers around and signs advising visitors to say hydrated. I can see it being a lot less enjoyable in the heat. There is a lot of shade, though. Most of the main areas at the festival have shade canopies.
The festival does get very busy, so if you want to avoid the crowds, come on a non-festival day. UPick peaches are usually available Thursday-Sunday during May (check their website for exact dates and times) and you can still get some peachy products at their country store, including fresh peach cinnamon rolls.
My family enjoyed Schnepf Farms peach festival and we are planning on the peachy pancake breakfast next year. It was a great was to spend a Saturday morning and I would recommend it to any peach-loving family.
