This building is so gorgeous and the grounds surrounding it are just beautiful. Our old church used to do their Easter service here every year and it was such a beautiful celebration. The courthouse itself is surrounded by lots of grass areas with seating scattered about. On a nice sunny day it would be a great place to picnic at and let the kids run free!
Beautiful spot for the kids to run around on the grassy area. Take the tower elevator or walk the stairs to the top and check out the 360 view. Stop by the mural room which is a court room with showing history of indians and the 1st settlers. Probably don't need a lot of time to see, but worth the visit. Library with good kids section across the street. Parking at the library (75 minutes free) or on the street. A block from State St., restaurants, shops.
Most kids would not want to tour a courthouse, except in Santa Barbara, where you can climb the 80-foot clock tower stairs (or take the elevator, for us fogeys) for a stuning panoramic view over the city, all the way to the ocean. The courthouse was built in 1929. You cannot miss the award-winning Spanish-Moorish design from anywhere in the city. Its sunken gardens are perfect for picnicking and are the site of many events during the year, such as Earth Day Festival and Fiesta.
