Sandy shores are actually rare at this beach due Acadia's coast being so young. However, you will find broken pieces of shells, as well as skeletons of marine life mixed in the sand that comes from shore currents.

"Perhaps the Best Beach in Bar Harbor"

Bar Harbor is more about the sights and scenery, which are stunningly beautiful, than enjoying the beach. However, what is a trip to the ocean without a day on the beach, too? Sand Beach seems naturally beautiful and untouched. It is truly beautiful. We took some great pictures here and were even able to get a close-up view of some sand pipers and a squirrel while we were shooting!

"Sand Beach"

Sand beach is beautiful, but expect a crowd on a sunny day.  My kids love running in and out of the waves until they get so cold they can't stand it.  Bring extra clothes and towels.  We also went to one of the Jr. Ranger programs here and they enjoyed it during low tide.
