We just couldn't pass up riding on a double decker carousel. Anything where you can climb stairs (a house, a bus, a ship) is double the fun!
My 4 and 6 year old wanted to ride and I was happy to see the discount price for 2. $5 for 2 instead of $3 each. Well, they got to the front of the line (there was no one waiting) and the attendant said my 4 year old was too young to ride by herself and had to have a paying adult ride with her. I wasn't too happy to have to pay for myself (who didn't want to ride), but of course I did.. and with a smile too. I actually enjoyed it, and I always enjoy seeing the smiles on my kid's faces.
We rode on the top deck, and I'm pretty sure I felt more dizzy because we were spinning closer to the center. The horses and animals still went up and down and the kids loved it. I appreciated the really nice Disney music playing while we rode which just makes everything feel more special. It was a "Zippidee Do Dah Day!"
Almost to the end of Pier 39, the San Francisco Carousel stands as a beautiful piece of moving artwork. This DOUBLE-DECKER carousel was made in Italy and shows scenes from all around San Francisco including the Golden Gate Bridge, Lombard Street, and Alcatraz.
We climbed straight to the top and hopped on our very own moving sea lion, panda bear, and horses to enjoy the ride. My older girls were a bit disappointed to learn after our visit that the bottom level offers fast spinning tubs, which they missed out on.
Carousels are always nostalgically fun ways to spend a short amount of time. I love snapping pics of my kiddos on carousels around the country, and this beautiful carousel was no exception.
