Day tripper pass for $5.
Family Weekends : Every Saturday & Sunday, two children 12 and under ride free with any paying passenger 18 and over.
For $5 for a whole day this is a great value. You can ride the trolley as much as you like, get out and visit the attractions at each stop along the way. One minor unpleasantry we encountered was young adults without tickets hopping off the cars when inspectors were checking tickets. So hold on to those tickets. Another negative is that a lot of locals use it for commuting, so you might not often get seats. Overall...great value for the money!
While living in San Diego, it was much easier to get around in a car than trying to go on the trolley schedule. We did take the trolley when we would go to Mexico. It was much easier than driving there. I wouldn't recommend crossing the border with young children. When we did use the trolley it was clean and easy to use.
$5 for a 2 way trip? Not for me. I'd rather walk. Although I did enjoy the trip. And it was convienient. to see everyone. We went by costco and the stadium and down town. I saw all the people. Sometimes they don't check the tickets. Someones they do.
An electric trolley run by the Metropolitan Transit System. The North-South Line runs
from downtown San Diego to the Mexican border at San Ysidro; the East-West Line
runs along the bay and includes Seaport Village, the Gaslamp Quarter, downtown,
and El Cajon. Another line runs from Old Town to El Cajon and Santee as well. A
superb, car-free way to travel around San Diego.
This is a fairly cheap way to travel around San Diego and not having to worry about driving. It goes to the major shopping areas (Mission Valley & Fashion Valley), and Tourist Areas (Old Town, Downtown, San Ysidro/Tijuana). Last time I rode it you could get an all day pass for $5.
The trolley system is okay nothing like BART in the bay area though it runs much slower and doesn't have as many stops.
