In-house restaurant called the Dinosaur Cafe.
We finally purchased a family membership to this museum and it's perfect for our needs. We arrive before it opens at 10am to have a stroll around Balboa Park. This museum is located right next to The Reuben H Fleet Science center so you could visit both in one morning. We park next to the Fleet usually.
Anyway, we visit the Natural History Museum for the dinosaur bones. They don't have too many, but it's enough for a 4 year old to think it's cool. I like that they have interactive exhibits. For instance, kids can turn a wheel to make a fake dinosaur egg hatch and play other learning games.
Right now there is also a gem exhibit on the ground floor that will knock your socks off. My 4 year old thinks that's cool too. It has a local spin to it too. They talk about where in San Diego some of these gems were mined.
Balboa Park is a must see for visitors to San Diego, which is where quite a few of our museums are. Check it out!
check the latest revolving exhibition in the museum before you go. We went when the human body exhibition was there. your ticket is well worth it. Visit on tuesday when it's free!! yes lads, it is free. excluding the special exhibition such as human body and dead sea scrolls. an exhibition i recommend is the local area. it shows you around san diego natural ecosystem. if you're a nature enthusiast, you and your little one can find out where is the next place to go fishing, hiking, or camping through here. of course the natural history museum will not complete without the prehistoric dinos, but my little girl like the whale exhibition more, just cause you hardly see their full body , and of course recommended after seaworld, so you little one will be more interested after seeing a full live one. take your time across the museum, you'll see some of the manatee hanging on the ceiling in the middle of other things.
Houses both permanent and changing exhibits and displays detailing the plants, animals, and geology of San Diego County as well as Baja California. Be sure to call for current displays.
