The San Antonio Zoo and Aquarium is fun for the entire family. You'll find thousands of animals from elephants to rhinos and more. There's a special children's area called the Tiny Tot Nature Area, a train and caterpillar/butterfly area where kids can see first hand home that transformation occurs ($1 additional fee).
San antonio zoo is very enjoyable for small kids.It has undergone some recent innovations and is much pleasurable. Our favorite show is that of monkeys, our kids liked it.Aquarium is not huge but good to see.Its very easy for travel near our sister's house. We enjoyed a lot.The admission price is very reasonable, even the membership fee is very reasonable.Even we need not bother about the food, easily available. Its a very good collection of animals. We enjoyed it.
We really enjoyed this zoo. I love how the exhibits try so closely to match the natural habitats of the animals. The variety of animals is good--pretty typical of other large zoos we have been to. We did not take note of the fact that the train closes earlier than the rest of the park, so we missed being able to go on the train, which was kind of a disappointment. It wasn't too crowded even though we went during a school break period.
Ok, I admit we only went to the zoo once, and I don't think we went in the aquarium... at least I don't remember it if we did. I admit that it has been a couple of years since we did. They had remodeled part of the zoo, and that was nice, so perhaps they have done more since our visit. The majority of our visit was nothing short of annoying. The old portion of the zoo (which was most of it) was very old style zoo, and made me very sad for the animals. They were in plain chain link fences with bushes lining the outside of the cages. There would be just a small area cut out of the bushes for viewing- hard for adults, but even worse for children to see anything. And people were horribly rude because it was so hard to see. (I realize that this isn't exactly the zoo's fault, but it made our stay a lot shorter.) Be smart. Spend the $$ and go to Sea World!
If you're in San Antonio with kids, you should definitely check out the Zoo. The animals are easy to see in their enclosures and the walking path is easy, even with pushing a heavy stroller. They have a great butterfly enclosure (extra charge) where the butterflies will actually land on you. We loved being up close with these usually shy creatures. Also, they have a great train ride (also, extra charge) that will take you around the zoo. You even go over a bridge and into a tunnel. My train lover was in heaven!
I visited this zoo as a child MANY times during the 70's and 80's. I have very fond memories as a kiddo. It has been about eighteen months since I last visited the San Antonio Zoo with my 2 daughters and at that time it had many parts under construction. I also felt like some of the animals looked sad. I don't know if it's because of their age or what, but specifically the elephant and a bear...looked REALLY bad. Now I will say there are MANY great things about the SAZ too. This zoo has GREAT shade trees which is VERY important especially in the SUPER HOT Texas summer months. My vote is for you to go at least once and then decide for yourself if you like it. OH...and it has a cool train which is a nice treat after you've been walking through the zoo all day.
The San Antonio Zoo is a family friendly, affordable location. It has a wonderful train ride that travels all the way around the surrounding park area. There is an area in the zoo for little ones to play, splash in a beach area, learn about animals, and play dress-up, crawl in toddler friendly areas, etc.. We get a membership every year and love it!
I can not say enough about the San Antonio hippo exhibit. The exhibit shows you underwater so you can see the animals swimming. This zoo also has a really fun frog exhibit that my 2-year-old was crazy about. It is a nice walk and the perfect afternoon for a family. I would go here again, although I would bring my own water, it can be pretty expensive in the zoo itself.
This is a beautiful zoo! Pretty clean for a zoo but the main flaw that I see is the limited amount of animals. The main focus of the zoo seemed to be birds. Don't get me wrong, I love birds and all and they had a billion beautiful birds and many that I had never seen at other zoos,, but kids need a variety of animals to see, well atleast mine do. The parking was a bit difficult to work out, especially if you are new to the area. It does have a nice children's area and a great concession section which makes it nice for small children.
Texas has some great zoos and this is one of them. I love the layout of the zoo, the habitats are great and the animals look so well taken care of. We love to visit every time we're in San Antonio. Feeding the Lories should be high on your list of things to do while there. Great place for adults and kids to explore and have fun.
We have a three year old and have been taking him to the zoo for the last two years. There is always something to see and it always seems like we find something new every time we visit. I LOVE the baby beach and it's a great way to cool down during a hot summer day in Texas. I like the zoo a lot better than SeaWorld for little ones, it's not overwhelming and it's really fun!
I took my three kiddos 13, 8, and 6 to this zoo and it was fantanstic! We will always remember the hippo because no other zoo we've been to had one. We also had a great time on the train ride! There was also a butterfly house, but it looked temporary. I'm not sure if it's there all the time. I would highly recommend you go!
This is one of the more kid-friendly zoos we have ever been to! The exhibits have signs that encourage the children to think about and question what they are seeing. There is a discovery center where the kids can play. They can crawl out into the middle of the prairie dog exhibit. There is a small petting zoo where you can actually go into the pens of the animals. The zoo is shaded well.
My 2 year old son and I had a blast at this zoo over Spring Break. We got there right when it opened so there was a line but once we got in we didn't feel crowded at all...Until about an hour and a half later when the rest of the city arrived! There were a TON of monkeys! The hippo exhibit was very cool. The elephant exhibit was a bit barren. The zoo does have multiple feeding times for various animals which is fun to watch. There is a petting zoo, although it only had goats in it. There is a sandy "beach" area for the kids to take off their shoes and just play which was wonderful. All in all, a great trip!
The San Antonio Zoo and Aquarium is a family delight, fun for kids and parents alike. More than 3,000 animals, most in natural settings, are displayed here. More than 700 different species, including rare white rhinos, snow leopards, and whooping cranes, make the zoo the third largest collection in the United States. A special children’s area features a tropical boat tour of animal and plant exhibits. Elephant and camel rides are available during most of the summer, zoo “Eagle” train,
We were not impressed with the San Antonio Zoo. First of all, there was a lot of construction going on. The animals are also far away, with lots of concrete in the habitats. The park was a little dirty and understaffed. There were a lot of birds, if that's your thing.
Very large zoo, not many areas to cool down from the hot Texas heat. Parking is close and easy and free! Lots of different animals to see with educational tidbits on the exibits. My kids loved the petting zoo. They were constructing a new exibit when we there that looks like a stadium.
