Saint Edward State Park is a 316-acre day-use park with 3,000 feet of freshwater shoreline on Lake Washington. Once a Catholic seminary, the park's rich history reflects in its grounds and architecture. The park offers many outdoor play amenities. The park hosts the last undeveloped waterfront along Lake Washington's shore. Bald eagles, otters and other animals may be viewed along the 3/4-mile natural portion of the perimeter. An indoor swimming pool and gymnasium are available. The Carole Ann Wald Memorial Pool, named in 1969 for the sister of a seminary student by their father (a major donor), now provides year-round, indoor public swimming programs for all ages and abilities.
Playground is located in a 300+ acre park which was a former Catholic seminary. Beautiful garden spots and tranquil trails abound. While not all trails are stroller friendly, the shorter hikes and walks are manageable for the younger set.
The seminary building is also of architectural interest.
Well, you can see all of the great things about this playground from other people's posts so even though I really like it i'm going to mention the things that I don't like that you might want to consider. First, the toddler play area is seperate from the older kids stuff, so I find it hard to watch kids in both areas. Also, the big kid area has a big play structure that makes it hard to see where your kids are at all times. If you have the kind of child that needs close watching, like my oldest, you might want to be prepared to follow along and play too!
I was so impressed by the playground at this park! It's really beautiful, SO much better than almost any other play structure that I've seen. It has it all. . . slides, sand with digging toys, swings, climbing equipment, and is in a really beautiful wooded area. It's a bit out of the way and takes awhile to get there from the freeways, but seriously worth it on a gorgeous day!
Tip: If you have a baby, bring your front carrier along. My 3 year old wanted me to follow her around a lot of the play structure and it got pretty tiring lugging the baby around the whole thing.
We love this park. We have 6 kids from 9 mo to 14 years. We all love this park. Weather it is a quick jaunt to the playground or a hike to the waterfront. It is great! The music in the summers are great as well.
It is the 1st park on my list of fun family afternoons!
I lived in Seattle for 7 years before I found out about this park- it's a wonderful park and well worth your visit! This park is fairly far outside of Seattle city limits- it's probably a 25-30 minute drive north, in light traffic. But, if it's a nice day and you're looking for a good place to go play, this park is worth checking out.
The park itself is large, with lots of parking, including a lot close to the play area. The play area has tons of fun equipment and places for your kids to play or run around or sit and eat. If you're up north, go visit this park, it's well worth the drive!
