"A great zoo for smaller kids!"

My kids love this zoo because they can see the whole thing in one day and not feel too overwhelmed. It's in a smaller area so the kids don't need to be in strollers and can explore on their own without me being worried about getting lost in the crowd. The small playground in the zoo allows them to have a break and just play when they're tired of the animals and there's a small train for a fun ride at the end of the day. THe enclosures aren't amazing, but aren't bad and it's a nice day out.

"Small but fun nonetheless!"

Now one thing I must mention is that this zoo is not really big but still it is well worth seeing. There are many different types of animals, shows, and exhibits to see. It is fun for the whole family, especially during the summer time when everything is open. There is definitely something interesting for each family member. I'm an adult but still enjoy going there with the little ones. Don't forget to visit Fairytale town right next door and Funderland which is also there.

"Sacramento Zoo"

Our toddler LOVES this place.  We took him when he was just one year old, and his eyes just got wide and he stared at everything he saw in awe.  Then we took him back when he was two and he still loved it.  He found a few 'favorite' animals and would just keep wanting to go back there.  Just know it's kind of expensive for such a little zoo, and once the kids get in there there are more things to do for money like a train ride and food, etc.

"Okay, not worth a special trip"

Came here with 2 and 4 year olds when visiting family in Sacramento. Land Park is pretty impressive, and going through the park, Storybook Land and Zoo might make in interesting visit. The Zoo alone isn't worth a special trip, but at $10/person won't break your bank either. An interesting enough diversion for a Saturday, if you're local or just visiting and killing time, but don't make a special drive for it. There are some more "popular" animals here and the enclosures are decent (don't make you feel sorry for the animals). Kids will also like the carousel at the entrance and the train.

"sacramento zoo"

There was nothing special about this trip. The animals are very limited and most were hard to see. Of course the food it awful and overpriced. I would go to fairytale town instead, cheaper and much more to do.I really was hoping to see more animals, most animals they seemed to have were birds.

"Take the big kids. Bring money."

The Sacramento Zoo is not a zoo that is going to blow your mind or be an impressive trip that you'll scrapbook and talk about years later. If at all possible, avoid it in the summer and wait until your kids are older. There is not a lot available to engross the little ones (i.e. toddler, preschool). The animals are not incredibly active or accessible so my toddler ended up tired from the walking and cranky from the heat.
The food options are minimal, expensive, and served from less than pristine kitchens. They make the food, and put it on the counter under heat lamps before it's even ordered; plus, there were flies all about, landing on the food, etc. GROSS!

"Save your money"

The animals here looked depressed. Every time I go to this zoo I want to cry. The animal’s habitats are old and decrepit. During our hot summers this dilapidated zoo barely provides the animals with enough shade. The orangutans especially look depressed. Ugh, I'm getting sad just thinking about the zoo.

"My day at the zoo"

took my daughter to the zoo for the first time, although a little cold she loved it! She was able to pet and see animals that i only read to her about! It was such a joyful moment to see the joy in her eyes and the smile on her face! We ate yummy foods, played, sang songs and the best part of all is when our daughter said "mommy and daddy, this has been the best day of my life! Something only a 4 year old could say to make our day!

"Morning trip"

I went here with my son on a his first grade field trip and quickly discovered that the Sacramento Zoo is nothing great. I guess the other zoos we've been to have just been so much better. It seemed to be in just one big circle and it didn't take long to get through it all. Just a quick morning visit would do.

"Sac Zoo family fun"

I've been to the zoo many times but this summer was the first time taking my son. He was about 11 months old at the time and he had a blast. I've been to the zoo in San Antonio, TX and felt that it had more animals than the Sac Zoo, but for my son it was perfect. He really enjoyed the various monkeys and the giraffes. There was even a new addition in the form of a tiger cub! All in all it was a fun trip but in the heat of summer it wasn't as enjoyable as it could have been even with the water misters they were running.

"Sacramento Zoo"

It is a nice small zoo. It doesn't have a ton to offer, but it is great for smaller kids. Usually it is not that crowded which makes it nice. They are currently adding some nice features to it. I recommend it for a first zoo experience, but not if you have already seen a bigger zoo.

"One of my favorite Zoos"

I have loved this zoo since I was a kid!!  Although it is an older zoo, it is constantly updating its exhibits.  It is very easy to get to, right off of I-5.  Parking is free.  In comparison to other zoos, it seems like you are closer to the animals.  Very stroller friendly, except for the snake exhibit.  We spend most of our time by the giraffes.  Right accross the street from Fairytale Land.

"Nice day trip"

Even though this zoo has been around for awhile they are constantely updating it with new animals and exhibits.  The animals always look happy here and they usually give the animals something unique to play with.  The parking situation sometimes can be tricky but if you drive around enough, you can usually find something.  They have a wonderful park right outside the gates so feel free to pack a picnic.

"Sister's Day"

Me and my sisters decided to have a sisters day out. We travel 3 hours to the Sacramento Zoo. The zoo was well kept and had a verity of animals. The staff are amazing and very friendly. We would often stop one walking by and ask them to take a group picture of us and they were super nice about it.

One of my little sisters was 16 at the time and it's hard to find anything that she likes to do (typical teenager) but she had a GREAT time spending the day at the zoo. Also, it was very cheap! Tickets to get in and tickets to ride the train was very reasonable and we even got matching bracelets to remember our day for only $2.00 each!

"How do you zoo?"

Located in beautiful Land Park, the Sacramento Zoo is a wonderful place to spend a few hours with the (younger) kids.  On a par with the Oakland Zoo, Sacramento's Zoo is "doable" with preschool aged kids -- big enough to fill the moring but not too big that you'll have to carry kids with tired legs.  The new giraffe exhibit gets kids an eye-to-eye with these beautiful animals (check out their blue tongues!).  Older kids will likely grow bored fairly quickly given the zoo's small size.

"Not as great as I thought it would be!"

I took my two kids (ages 3 1/2 and 1 1/2) to this zoo and wasn't as impressed as I thought I would be.  The zoo area is pretty big but seems outdated and overpriced.  I used the Sacramento Entertainment book which helped with the cost, but it still seemed pricey.  The monkey and safari animals were pretty cool.  There are several giraffes and LOTS of monkeys.  I was surprised though in the lack of people.  We did go on a weekday but I was expecting more people, especially families.  We drove about an hour and half to get there.  Not sure if this will become a regular activity for us.  I think the Folsom Zoo Sanctuary is a better bang for our buck.

"Great place to spend the day."

This zoo is very spacious and its easy to get around and see everything even when there is a large crowd.  Unlike Oakland and SF Zoo's, parking here is free.  You can buy a one year family pass for about $80.00 and use it to get in free for a year and half price admission to most other zoos (including SF and Oakland)

"A zoo that holds a special place in my heart"

The Sacramento Zoo was my children's first zoo. Its small but it is a great size for toddlers. They have done alot to improve the quality of their exhibits and they have alot of wild cats which are my favorites. There is a playground for kids who need to run off some of their energy. This zoo isn't the biggest or the best but it is definitely worth a visit.

"Cute zoo"

Our family had lots of fun at the Sacramento zoo.  Admission was reasonable, and surprisingly the food inside was affordable as well.  They have all of the animals you would expect at a zoo, plus a few surprising ones.  A bonus is that it's right across the street from Fairytale town, and you can even get combo tickets for the two attractions.

"Fun with the Family"

Remodeled and expanded, with national recognition for the rare cat, primate, and bird collections, and the red panda exhibit.
Across the street from the zoo, Fairytale Town is heaven for the littlest angels, with play structures themed to Mother Goose, puppet shows, and more. Also here is Funderland, an amusement park with rides for kids of elementary school age (pay per ride). William Land Park is a large city park with playgrounds, picnic areas, and a duck pond.
