In June of 2003 the Friends of the National Parks at Gettysburg opened the Rupp House History Center. The house currently on this site was built shortly after the battle, but there was a house that stood here earlier in July 1863. The History Center, right in the center of town and within walking distance of the park, offers visitors a hands-on, interactive experience of the sights, sounds, touch, and even the smell of nineteenth-century Gettysburg. And it’s free!
