"Great way to see dolphins in person!"

When in Virginia Beach, don't miss the dolphin-watching cruises (summertime) that depart from the Rudee Inlet. You can purchase a discount voucher along with your Virginia Aquarium admission (saves you $3 on adult tickets or $2 on kids) or you can get a $2 discount coupon (per person) from their website or in the various Virginia Beach coupon books.

There are two different boats: the Flipper is your standard sightseeing boat, with upper and lower decks, and the Rudee Rocket is more of a speed boat type experience (some people get wet, depending on where they sit on the boat). We took the Flipper and enjoyed it immensely. My 4-year old was thrilled to see so many dolphins following our boat and playing in its wake (try a morning cruise for the best chance of seeing dolphins). Bring your camera and sunscreen, plus a hat.

The Flipper offers refreshments and a small air-conditioned section,as well as restrooms. When you board, you will have your photo taken, which you can later purchase in a souvenir cardboard frame for $9.00. The Virginia Aquarium volunteers on board will give you a lot of useful information about how dolphins live and eat, and they will also walk around letting the kids touch dolphin skulls and bones. This is a little pricey, but a unique experience that is well worth the price. You can also go whale watching in the winter months.

"Fun dolphin watching"

We went out on a dolphin watching cruise and had so much fun!  We did make the mistake of sitting in the back though, and we got absolutely soaked!  We did get to see several dolphins.  It is a little pricey at $19/person, and they don't accept reservations.
