Our daughter has always loved Thomas the Tank Engine, so last time we were in Savannah for a day, we spent it at the Roundhouse Railroad Museum. She LOVED the fact that it was a real roundhouse and kept pointing out features to us that she recognized from the Thomas videos and books.
Don't miss out on the boxcar and executive car tours while you are there. (If you go in the summer, the fact that the executive cars are air conditioned is a huge plus!) Also, make sure you get a chance to try out running the handcar - such a fun experience.

There is a large model train layout of Savannah. My kids loved that they got to see the steam and diesel locmotives. As well as a working turntable. I have included the current phone number, as prices do change occassionally. It is open 10am-4pm. They have model railroads, rail cars, and a smokestack. Well worth a day visit!
The roundhouse is listed on the national historic registry and was the headquarters for the Central Georgia Railway.
