The Roanoke Star has been standing on Mill Mountain overlooking Roanoke since 1949. It is the reason that Roanoke has the name "Star City of the South".
There's lots of parking near the Star, and from the parking lot it's an easy walk over to the Star and the lookout. You're not going to find a place with a better view of the city and all the surrounding scenery. If you go in fall, the view is breathtaking, with all the gorgeous autumn leaves. A must-see in Roanoke.
The city’s most visible attraction, the 100-foot-tall illuminated star made out of steel, concrete, and 2,000 feet of neon tubing shines from the top of Mill Mountain, less than a ten-minute drive from downtown.
