We went to the SoCal tour of Legends from Ringling Bros and Barnum & Bailey in Ontario (the tour also will stop in Orange County). My girls had a fabulous time, but the show does run long, so plan ahead. Wrapping up around 10:30pm, well over 2 hours past my little ones' bed time was a bit challenging.
Overall, the show was great- non stop entertainment, action, animals, feats, and fun. Our favorites were the trapeze, the uber impressive motorcycle cage feat, and the animals.
The Ringling Bros and Barnum and Baily Circus show Legends takes THE most exciting, THE most thrilling, THE most “Legendary” acts of circus history and puts them into one night. The sights sounds pyrotechnics and showmanship provide the best the circus has to offer.
As a kid I remember the wonder of it all....the elephants, the lions, and of course the clowns….I had forgotten that the circus is FAR more than animals and clowns. It was a performance led by the Ringmaster and his sidekick Paulo, with choreographed musical numbers, dancers and a story line discovering the Legends of the circus. The various performers ranged from stunt horseman to aerial acrobats doing flips on poles, to lion tamers. The kids’ favorite act by far was the Amazing Torres Family. A troupe of motorcycle daredevils who rode around in a giant metal sphere complete with pyrotechnics and neon lights.
In keeping with the Legends of the circus theme the show included a Pegasus, Unicorn, and Wooly Mammoth. (costumed animals)
Overall, my 6 and 8 year old were delighted with everything while my 10 year old found the daredevil acts most appealing.
PRE-SHOW: Don’t miss! Arrive early for the ALL-ACCESS pre-show included with each ticket. Kids are invited to see the circus up-close. Siting on a motorcycle, photo ops with performers, dressing in circus costumes and sitting around one of the circus rings to watch clowns and elephants at arms length. The pre-show starts about an hour and a half before the performance.
PARKING: Parking at Staples Center is always a challenge. Choose one of the pay lots across the street ranging in price from $10-$15. This upgraded area of downtown felt safe to walk around in even at night and we parked right across the street. Lot parking is also available at an hourly rate at Staples Center.
FOOD: We ate dinner across the street from Staples Center at SMASH Burger in the LA LIVE area. There is a variety to restaurants to choose from ranging in price. Once inside Staples Center food is typical concession stand fare. Pretzels started at $5 with Cotton Candy coming in at $14 a bag and everything else in-between.
WORTH NOTING: When we arrived we had to walk through a large crowd of protesters shouting at the kids and me and handing out materials about cruelty to animals. I love that I live in a country where we can both protest and attend an event, but I was not expecting this and wish I had prepped my kids.
Disclosure: Our tickets were complementary but all experiences and opinions are my own.
