"Great activity for little kids"

My six-year-old daughter and I visited the Reston Zoo for the first time last week and had a great time.  It's a good place to take children for a few hours to interact with animals.  We bought and fed sheep, goats, pigs, and were even able to pet and feed antelope on the wagon ride.  She also loved the monkeys and pony ride.  We'll go again next year when my son is a little older.  However, it's a little pricey for a large family - considering the National Zoo is nearby.

"Good for very young children"

This zoo is ok for very young children, but I probably wouldn't come here with kids older than 9 or 10. They have a decent assortment of animals, but the best feature is the little wagon ride that takes you out to see antelope, deer, zebras, ostrich, bison, etc. You can buy food to feed the sheep, goats, etc., and you can pet these smaller animals. You can also buy a baby bottle filled with milk to feed to them.

There are some nice picnic facilities and a gift shop that sells some pre-packaged ice creams and sodas. This is a very basic zoo, suitable for the small kids, who will enjoy it a lot.

"Don't go out of your way"

The Reston Zoo is a small, fairly rundown petting zoo that is overrun with kids.  Animals are spread throughout a hot, dusty sun beaten farm yard.  A long shed houses pens of pigs and goats that kids can feed.
I get the impression that there are too many animals for the management to take care of.  There are lots of animal feces and the place has a strong barn yard smell.  That being said, I don't know of another spot in NOVA to pet goats, so this might be your best bet.

"great place Reston ZOO"

I have a 4 years old son and he loves this place. We go every time I am off. I purchased  a year pass for me and him for $90.00 its worth it. They have pony rides for $4.00 and a free tractor trail ride. Also I am going to donate my fire belly frogs for them tomorrow to putt them on display. They are Sucrets toxins so they best place in the zoo.  But that way my son can see them every time we are there which is a lot. Also they have a lot of baby animals this spring. They are so adorable.

"Child loved it!"

My 4 1/2 year old loved this zoo.  It's a petting zoo with several different great sites to see including a tractor ride through parts of the zoo to get up close and personal with some animals.  I paid $28 for me and my daughter to get in and a huge bucket of food for throughout the park.
