This place is more than just snakes in an aquarium. There are a variety of shows and walk-through exhibits. One hundred year old turtles and giant pythons make for an interesting day. Try to go at the beginning of the tourist season, or it is quite busy. Easy location makes a variety of other attractions convenient.
This is a great learning experience because your not just seeing these animals online or in a book, they are usually within arms length away from you. I remember when the albino burmese python was introduced to the crowd and the kids went nuts, we even got to touch it. The snake must have been 15+ feet long. The giant tortoises were cool too, I don't remember exactly what facts were so amazing about them, but I would pay attention to the zoologists when they talk about what makes these creatures so unique.
What a great place to visit. We just loved it! The highlight of the trip for me was to meet giant tortoises. They are breath taking, slow and very, very sweet. They absolutely love to have their chins scratched and will stop everything they're doing to soak up the love. The grounds are well kept and the animals look well taken care of. Definately a must if you are in the Mount Rushmore area. We stayed at an RV park directly across from Reptile Gardens. Great location!
