The Remick family settled in Tamworth over 200 years ago, and six generations of the same family worked the farm. Each generation prospered, and was active in the town's history. Before his death in 1993, Dr. Edwin Crafts Remick created a foundation to preserve his home, farm and family history in a way that the public could enjoy. The Remick family's 200 year history in Tamworth gives us all a glimpse into how people worked and played in this historic landscape.
The Remick Museum offers a diverse array of programs, workshops and special events for adults, children, and families. Historic traditions of agricultural and domestic life can be experienced through interactive education programs and workshops. The animals and crops we raise are used in historic cooking programs. Seasonal activities like ice harvesting and maple sugaring are celebrated during special events.
Exhibits change with the seasons, so there is always something new for the inquisitive mind of every age.

"Learning farm"

We spent a half a day at the Remick farm. It was a good time for the kids to learn about animals which they love. We tried to go back this year for a milking demo but missed the time. We were assigned a tour guide through the outdoor areas of the farm to learn about the cows and bulls. There were also birds. I recall my kids wrote in their vacation essay books about the floppy skin parts of the turkey called a snood and keruncle. These words have become part of our vocabulary. Their 1st grade teacher was impressed. Indoors there is a hands on learning area for children to make crafts, read books, play games etc. There is also a display about the different seasons and how they impact farm life. There is a water pump that every kid just had to try, and it was hard to drag them away. My favorite part of the exhibit had to do with the good doctor himself. There were old medicines, prescriptions, devices and records that were fascinating to read about if you are into the medical field. I recently met a man that knew the doctor. We had a good talk about the trials of a country doctor. We will go back. There are beautiful grounds for a picnic and a hike. Nearby there is also a summer theater in Tamworth if you wish to make a day or 2 out of the trip.
