Gondola ride at 8,000 feet at Canyons Resort.
The Red Pine Gondola, located at Canyons Resort gives families a ride to mid-mountain where endless outdoor recreational opportunities can be found. The base of the gondola is located within steps of the Grand Summit Hotel and also within steps of the Cabriolet lift, a lift that takes visitors from the lower resort village parking area to the base of the resort. Talk about convenience!
We took our kids age 10, 7, and 2 on the Red Pine Gondola ride to mid-mountain in early September to enjoy some high altitude recreating. Getting on the gondola with small kids can be a bit scary the first time. Thankfully, the gondola attendant was very helpful assisting little ones on to the gondola car and slowing it down when necessary. We enjoyed the ride, looking down at the resort village and Park City below. Getting off the gondola at mid-mountain was easy enough with kiddos, plenty of time to depart and get safely out of the way.
Gondola tickets will allow visitors to ride the High Meadow ski lift which goes up another mile and within walking distance to the resort’s private reservoir. The High Meadow ski lift is an open air 4 seat ski lift so it may not be for every family travelling with small kids. My 2 year old managed to easily sit still and stay safe on the lift.
Bikes are allowed on the gondola; the attendant will hang it on the outside of the car for you, no need to pile it inside yourself. Bikes are also allowed on the High Meadow ski lift allowing mountain bikers the opportunity to enjoy a great downhill ride without the strenuous uphill climb.
Be prepared for anything when riding the gondola. We encountered a lightning storm which required the resort to shut down the gondola while we were still on the mountain. Stranded for 40 minutes, we watched the storm pass from the safety of the Red Pine Lodge at mid-mountain.
In all, a ride on the Red Pine Gondola is perfect for families looking for a unique activity. The ride itself is enjoyable and the destination is a gateway to outdoor family fun.
