The Range Riders Kid’s Club is a program offered by the JW Marriott San Antonio Hill Country Resort & Spa designed to entertain children between the ages of 4-12 years old (must be potty trained). Our 2 little girls (ages 4 & 5) had the pleasure of attending a half-day program at Range Riders and they had a wonderful time. In addition to the drop-off program, the Range Riders Club along with Outdoor Bound, oversee many of the resorts’ free or low-cost family activities.
ATMOSPHERE
Range Riders Club is located on the ground floor just across from the River Experience. It was a very warm, inviting and kid-friendly environment. Staying with the Texas Hill Country theme we were greeted by a big longhorn replica that was pretty cool. Our kids must have known this was their domain because they immediately wanted to stay. Range Riders is also able to use various areas on the grounds of the resort for outdoor recreation. You will often find activities going on just outside the club on the lawn.
STAFF
Aaron was a young, friendly Range Rider’s Staff Member that was in charge of our girls. He connected with my kids immediately and took great care of them. They really enjoyed playing with him. We also came in contact with several of the other Range Riders staff at various activities around the resort and everyone seemed equally as nice.
ENTERTAINMENT
After consulting with my 2 girls about their experience during the drop-off program, I realized they had quite a day! Aaron kept them busy with art projects (painting) and playing games (hide & seek snake & a lawn game). He also took photos of them and let them decorate their frames. Just before leaving he gave them a goody bag (with a stuffed armadillo and a water toy) to enjoy during their stay at the resort.
You can pick up a Range Riders activity calendar at the kids club or at the concierge desk. It offers a TON of activities to enjoy as a family throughout the day. One of our favorites is every night between 7:00-9:00 you can join other guests fireside to roast marshmallows and make S’mores. The first time we went to make S’mores we got there at 8:55 and they were in the middle of packing everything up...so definitely don’t wait until the last minute. The second time we went to make S’mores...there was a sign that they had moved the activity to the Sunday House (on the other side of the resort) and it was a bit tricky to find it. Once we did find it...it was lots of fun. Afterwards we took our S’mores and walked around the grounds eating them. We were also able to participate in Stargazing (available on Wednesday/Friday nights). The resort sets up 2 telescopes on the lawn near the golf course for guests. It just so happened to be a full moon that night and it was gorgeous outside. There were two employees from Outdoor Bound on hand to answer questions and share a little about the numerous stars and planets. We would have loved to attended more of the activities, but the pools trumped doing so.
COST/VALUE
The cost of the drop-off program is $10/hour per child. If you only have one child I think this is a great value, but if you have 2 or more kids it can get a bit costly. I think offering a discount for multiple kids might attract more parents to use the Range Riders drop-off program (there was only one other child when my girls attended). Look at the Range Riders Kids Club Policies and Procedures for other possible costs due to cancellations or late pick up fees.
If you would like a break from your children to play a round of golf, have a spa treatment or to have a quiet dinner at 18 Oaks...then Range Riders is a great choice for your 4-12 year old children. Our children had a lot of fun at Range Riders and we felt comfortable and confident that we were leaving them in good hands.
