"Easy Access to Outdoor Adventure"

Rancho San Antonio is a great place to go when you feel like you need a little bit of nature in your day. The hiking trails range from strenuous (with great views of the valley) to stroller friendly. There is a fun little farm to walk out to. They usually have some fun live stock to take a look at. Other fun features are tennis courts and a great place to fly or watch RC airplanes and helicopters. Easy access and plenty of parking make this park a winner for us!

"Hiking trails and Deer Hollow Farm"

My two year old and I hiked up Coyote Trail and back down to Deer Hollow Farm.  The total trip was less than two miles, perfect if you have an ergo or similar carrier.  The trails are graded and packed so an off-road stroller would also be a good option.

Parking was not a problem at 9:30 on Friday morning.  The main parking lot has a nice restroom, but the portable toilets next to the farm are not pleasant.

The farm has poultry, sheep, goats, and a lovely cow, all well kept in tidy pens.  The farms sells the chicken eggs in the little office next to the dwarf orchard.  I think they get about 4 dozen eggs a day in the summer, but they sell out pretty quickly.

"Great Morning Outing"

This park is great because after a short, easy hike (paved or dirt--you pick which you want to walk on) there is a little farm with a garden and animals. The kids love the animals, it is very stroller accessible and it doesn't take too long. It is a perfect morning activity before nap time.

"Rancho"

One of our favorite parks to visit with our kids all year round.  If you have toddlers, challenge them with an 'eye-spy' game on the walk up to the farm.  Bring the stroller, just in case they get tired on the way back.  Things to bring: water, small washcloth to soak in water and put on your kids neck in case they get hot, snacks and a camera.  Don't forget to use the bathrooms before you head out on your walk.  Lots of runners and bikes on the lower path to the farm.  Parking gets crowded after 10a in the summer.

"Burn some energy"

My toddler is high energy and LOVES to run.  Bring a stroller just in case, but mine can walk/run almost the entire 1/2 mile to the farm area where he can see goats, pigs, chickens and rabbits.  The first parking lot also has an area for flying model airplanes.

"Hiking for all ages and animals too"

My husband and I used to do our trail running here pre-kids, we would run up the mountain, great workout. The path up is still doable with an all-terrain stroller or with older kids but for a more family friendly stroll choose the lower path for a nice hike going over small bridges. There is a cute farm there and sometimes you can see the animals (but it is not always open). Lots of fun either way.

"Triptrop on the bridges"

Rancho San Antonio has farm animals that children love: cows, goats, pigs, chickens, rabbits... There is also a bypass trail that takes you through the windy wooded area above the farm, and continue onto the trail uphill.  It has several wooden foot bridges that kids would love to "trip-trop" over across a rocky meandering stream.  Good place to smell the bay leaves in the fresh air and look for banana slugs on the trails!  Just make sure the kids know how to avoid poison oak leaves in the hills!
