The Racine Zoo is super affordable and can be done in a short time. It is definitely a zoo for younger children. We LOVED the aviary house. My then 1 year old son was so intrigued by all of the beautiful birds...as was I! Other parts of the zoo left a lot to be desired, though. The second favorite part for my youngster was the playground, which we could have gone anywhere for. I must say that seeing a kangaroo hopping about where we were walking was fantastic! Looks like they have done a lot to this zoo because we went years ago when it was free. But, there is still some work to be done.
I have enjoyed visiting the Racine Zoo on several occasions. It is an extremely small zoo, with only a few animals. That being said, it is also very beautiful and very enjoyable to walk through. It is nice to be able to see a few animals without spending a whole day in an overcrowded zoo. There is also a place to picnic.
We really like this zoo as a second choice if we get tired of going to the Milwaukee zoo. It's free, so makes for a wonderful cheap day of fun and learning. It's very clean and well kept. A nice variety of animals. Easy to access bathrooms. Friendly staff. The animal habitats are very nice.
I found the zoo to be depressing especially with the petting zoo gone and it being replaced by parakeets and the so called aviary. Ive lived in the area for 7 yrs and I have seen the progression the zoo has been taking and I wish the animals looked happier. I also miss being able to walk around the pond and watch the fish and turtles in the pond. They have a beautiful water feature they arent using.
The Racine Zoo is the perfect size zoo for young children. Lions, giraffes, monkeys, rhinos, and more! Even though it's a small zoo they have a great variety of animals.
Sitting along Lake Michgan, the zoo is a beautiful location.
There is a petting zoo and playground as well.
The Racine Zoo has undergone many wonderful changes in the many years I have been visiting it. The zoo is open 365 days a year, from 9:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. The current admission prices are: Adults - $5.00, Seniors (62 plus) - $4.00, Children (3-15 years of age) - $3.00, and Racine County residents receive $1.00 admission every Monday with photo ID. New to the zoo this year is an interactive and immersive aviary exhibit featuring over 200 Australian birds. The zoo is also home to more than 250 animals including large cats, giraffes, monkeys, penguins, and meerkats. The animal areas are well-kept and they seem to have eliminated a geese problem that became quite annoying last summer. Each section of the zoo has themed signs along with individual animal fact boards, which are kid-friendly. There is also the "Zoo Choo Express" train that costs $2 per person. It is small, has limited seating and in my opinion, for the money is no comparison to the Milwaukee Zoo train. I have always loved this zoo because it does not take an entire afternoon to see all of the animals, yet there is enough to keep little ones entertained.
After exploring the zoo, take a walk down to Zoo Beach. There are lifeguards, plenty of clean sand, and wonderful views of Lake Michigan's shoreline.
