Across the plaza from the Unisphere, housed in New York’s World’s Fair pavilion, is an excellent collection of twentieth-century art, but what really fascinates families is the 9,500-square-foot panorama of the city of New York. More than 900,000 Lilliputia scale buildings and bridges, built of wood and plaster, adorn a giant relief map of all five boroughs, complete with a tiny airplane that departs regularly from La Guardia Airport. Opportunities to construct a building of your own are available at children’s art workshops throughout the year, offering inspiration to aspiring architects.
